Here are a few tips that will help you achieve the best result possible when printing your thesis.
We prefer PDF files, ideally with trim marks and images 300 dpi.
Margins
We recommend a margin of at least 20mm for text pages. It will prevent information from leaking into the spine. The other three edges should have a minimum margin of 10mm (we trim our pages to 295 x 208).
Please do not place text close to the top edge if you have landscape pages in your portrait document. You may lose the text on the spine edge when the page is turned to portrait.
Bleed
You will need to add 3mm extra bleed if any artwork or images “bleed” or go right to the edge. If this isn’t possible, we will cut your pages by a few millimetres in order to prevent any white edges.
Fold Outs
Please note that A3-sized foldouts will not be reproduced exactly as A3. We format the page at 395 x 297.5mm to ensure that the page will fold correctly. You will need to account for this in your design.
Self-printing
It is essential that you use high-quality paper and a printer/copier to prevent any ink smudging or page warping. You should also make sure that your pages are dry. We use 100gsm paper to print our thesis. The slightly heavier weight paper feels nicer and the information is less visible. Please contact Tesissima if you would like to use a special paper for your thesis.
It is important that you check your document to ensure it has the correct page numbering and all pages are of the same size before submitting the final printout.
